Quilting is a rapidly growing past-time that generally results from joining together a minimum of 3 layers of fabric both through manual hand stitching from the usage of a needle and thread, or tecchnically with a sewing machine or other mechanized quilting devices. An array of stitches is woven into all layers of the fabric to create a three dimensional padded surface. The three layers are commonly called the top fabric or quilt-top, batting or insulating material and the backing.

Our mission:
To be the world’s leading provider of the highest quality quilting fabrics and provide the best platform to enable quilters worldwide to live happier and more fulfilling lives.

Quilting varies from a purely purposeful cloth joinery technique to quite artistic, and decorative 3 dimensional surface beauties. A large variety of textile products are traditionally related to quilting that consists of bed coverings, applicable home furnishings, garments and costumes, wall hangings, artistic productions, and cultural artifacts.

The quilter controls these effects through the manipulation of elements such as material type and thickness, stitch length and style, pattern design, piecing and cutting. Two dimensional effects such as optical illusions can be achieved through aesthetic choices regarding colour, texture and print. Three dimensional and sculptural components of quilted material can be manipulated and enhanced with further embellishment which may include appliqué, embroidery techniques such as shisha mirror work, and the inclusion of other objects or elements such as pearls, beads, buttons, sequins. Some quilters dye or create their own fabrics. In contemporary artistic quilting, new and experimental materials such as plastics, paper, naturally occurring fibres and plants amongst a diverse array of other materials have been used.

Now let’s talk about the unique and innovative features of the global village we call Quilters United.

NETWORKING/EVENTS – Because of its international scope, Quilters United allows for networking beyond national borders. Quilting plays a very important and unique role in recording, and capturing history. In the digital age, one after another of our activities is being automated, and made more accessible. Our platform facilitates this automation by connecting people with shared interests. Did you know that there are quilting cooperatives in Kabul, Afghanistan, helping girls and women to develop skills and ultimately self-worth? The same thing is happening in other places that are not as affluent as others. Do you want to share in these stories? We can help to make it happen at Quilters United, the global quilting village.

ELIMINATE LONELINESS – The pandemic quarantine and lockdowns are causing a sense of loneliness, isolation, and helplessness among many people. Despite this devastating feeling that we have to grapple with, there are a lot of things that we can do to counteract them. While quilting and sewing will continue to bring you joy, the lack of connection with friends, family, and colleagues for quilting get togethers or other type of gatherings can cause you to lose your center of gravity and introduce problems and challenges to your life. You need to be vigilant in ensuring you stay connected to important people in your life.
